HARMONY

Hi Gals!

I listened to a TV show speech the other night where the character talked about harmony.  It got me to thinking.  HARMONY … does my life exhibit harmony?  What is harmony?
According to Webster’s dictionary harmony is a pleasing arrangement of parts. In music  harmony means a group of chords that produces a melody.    So, a life lived in harmony would be a life lived with order and balance… for the believer it is a life lived in accord and agreement with God’s Word and His Ways.  What does God have to say about harmony?  Psalm 85 paints a beautiful picture of harmony.  Jesus’ life gives us the way to harmony.

Psalm 85:10-13 (NLT)
10 Unfailing love and truth have met together. Righteousness and peace have kissed!
11 Truth springs up from the earth, and righteousness smiles down from heaven.
12 Yes, the LORD pours down his blessings. Our land will yield its bountiful harvest.
13 Righteousness goes as a herald before him, preparing the way for his steps.
I love verse 10 in the New King James Version: Psalm 85:10 (NKJV) Mercy and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed.
The work of Jesus makes a life of harmony possible for us.  We are given righteousness,  peace, mercy, and forgiveness – the chords of harmony -  even though we fall short of the glory of God in our sinful natures.
When we think of harmony we must remember that Satan’s aim is to disrupt harmony in our world.  Satan is the opposite of God and brings discord, imbalance, tension, and disturbance.  God brings harmony.
In these verses I see three kinds of harmony. We have:

1. The Harmony of God’s Character
The qualities of God never bring conflict and tension. Love and faithfulness, righteousness and peace are always in agreement with God’s character.  We only have peace in our lives when we rest in Him and draw on His character to flow through us.
(Gal. 5: 22-23)
reconcile
2. The Harmony Between God and Man
Through Christ we are in right-standing with God. No conflict. No disharmony. We are reconciled…brought together, united, merged!
3. The Harmony Within Ourselves
When God’s character rules in our lives – we live in peace. We live lives that are at peace with God, with ourselves, and with one another.  The fruit of His Spirit is not just God’s – He has chosen to share them with us – His qualities that fill us and enable us to live harmonious lives.  The qualities that the psalmist points out…faithfulness, righteousness, peace, love…they are ours!

Paul tells us in Phil.2:2 to live in harmony….let’s choose to live in harmony – in accordance with God’s Word- which leads us and empowers us to live in harmony with others and makes us happy with ourselves!  Sounds good doesn’t it?  The sounds of harmony are wonderful – laughter, sighs of pleasure, and the sound of calm and peace. Thank you Lord Jesus!
Joyfully,
Yvonne
